A typical Burlesque show
Every act is uniquely different as much as the performers are.
Burlesque performers are not given a “script” – they come up with their stage personas and concepts for their acts. Like actors do, each time they play a different role: they can be a pin-up, an exotic dancer, a seductive diva, a circus performer, a sexy secretary, a lolita, a saloon showgirl, a can-can dancer, a bride, etc.
They choose their music, choreograph their numbers, use accessories and props, and usually create their own costumes. They have complete control of their image, that is so appealing to the audience.
The only thing you can expect from Burlesque is the unexpected. As with any kind of live performance, the best way to experience it is to go to a show. Go with an open mind. And expect to be entertained.
It's about the tease, rather than the nudity.
It's about an idea of what is sexy.
It's empowering, because the performer is the one in charge.
