Let's learn something more about Burlesque

Nowadays Burlesque is extremely popular in the UK, Australia, US, Italy, Germany, France and in many other European countries. There are hundreds of clubs and venues that offer fabulous shows, and schools as well where women enjoy taking lessons.

What is Burlesque?

This beautiful performing art is a dance but at the same time it is a cosplay, as every single act usually -but not necessarily- tells a story and the performer plays a role.

A Burlesque show combines cabaret, theatre, performing art and exotic dances. It is sensual but also ironic, it is elegant and never vulgar.

Dresscode

Costumes and accessories are essential to define a Burlesque show: feather boas, sequins, rhinestones, long satin gloves, big feather fans, etc., they all are a must. But there’s no limit in accessories, props and costumes.

The music

The music is vintage and retró: songs from the 40s and 50s, like Frank Sinatra, Eartha Kitt, Marilyn Monroe, etc., but also contemporary artists with an old-time style, like Michael Buble’, Christina Aguilera, etc. But the so-called New Burlesque acts also include other genres of songs, such as rock, blues and pop.

The audience!

Last but not least: the audience at Burlesque shows usually is very participating and enthusiastic, interacting and demonstrating their involvement by clapping hands, cheering, yelling and whistling. If you see for example a glove or the boa removed, whoop! Let the performer know that you are enjoying the Show!
