What is the difference between Classic Burlesque and New Burlesque?

Burlesque is a performing art and worldwide it's more and more popular. Women of every age, size and shape love it because it's funny, elegant, ironic, sensual and easy to learn.

It is a dance but at the same time it is a cosplay, as every single act usually tells a story and the performer plays a role. It combines cabaret, theatre, performing art and exotic dances. Each performer tells a story in the length of a song.

Costumes and accessories are essential to define a Burlesque show: feather boas, sequins, rhinestones, long satin gloves, big feather fans, etc., they all are a must. But there’s no limit in accessories, props and costumes.

I may talk (and write) for hours about Burlesque.

To cut a long story short, it is a mixture of: retro' and vintage style, beautiful costumes and accessories (to mention the most important ones: feather boa and gloves), old music (like Sinatra, Hearta Kitt, but also contemporary singers, like Michael Buble', Christina Aguileira, etc.).

Coming to the point of this post, Classic Burlesque includes all the features indicated above and most of all is characterized by a very retro’ style, which is given mainly by costumes, techniques, music and atmosphere.

New Burlesque, on the other hand, includes different elements, such as the use of unconventional music (rock, blues, jazz, pop, etc.), or introduces disciplines such as pole dance, circus and aerial shows. New Burlesque gives to the performers the opportunity to express their creativity, as they can tap into a range of techniques, arts, accessories and costumes.
