Burlesque worldwide & most famous venues
During the past twenty years Burlesque has had a rebirth mostly thanks to American performers. Like a positive shockwave, it then spread all over Europe (at first in the UK and France, and then also in Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and in the Northern countries). Then it also reached Australia, where it’s becoming more and more popular, with high-level schools and prominent performers on a cross-border basis.
If on a first stage performing was confined to small venues, as a local event for a limited audience, afterwards in many countries shows moved to clubs and theatres which, in some cases, are now specialized in this kind of entertainment. In elegant and refined locations, spectators are offered high-quality shows, with important names on the poster, often along with a sumptuous dinner or sophisticated cocktails. With the results that the entrance tickets and the prices for food and drinks are not affordable for everyone and have lost that working-class mark that belonged to the origins of Burlesque itself.
But together with expensive shows in exclusive venues, also many pubs, restaurants and clubs during the weekend warm up the atmosphere with the Burlesque Night, offering to their customers a different kind of amusement, different from the same old karaoke, tribute bands or bingo… which I hope I will soon contribute to create also here in Cyprus :-)
