Dancing

A Burlesque performance includes some dancing, but this doesn’t mean that a performer must be a professional dancer. What is essential is that she moves according to the rhythm of the music, seamlessly and with grace.

As already said, an act is a sketch or better the representation of a short story, and for this reason most of the time performers seem to play a role or to stage a specific situation.

It’s true that many performers come from the world of dance (ballet, belly dancing, salsa, tango, etc.) but, according to its own origins, Burlesque is suitable for any kind of women (regardless of age, size and shape) and does not required any experience whatsoever.

Everything helps, of course (drama lessons, just to mention one) and performers who include dancing in their acts are exploring and developing one of the spin-offs in Burlesque that is called New Burlesque.

There are specific types of dance in Burlesque, all of them requiring specific accessories or props, such as: fan dance, balloon dance, veil dance, chair dance.

We will see each of them in detail in the next posts ;-)
