What is New Burlesque?
New Burlesque or Neo-Burlesque is an evolution of Classic Burlesque and includes techniques, props, music and costumes taken from other performing arts or genres.
It implies the incorporation of other artistic forms, such as: circus, athletics, dance, multimedia, tribal dances, pole dance, aerial shows, fire shows, and so on.
Also music has a main role: instead of using classic songs and pieces, performers may choose genres like rock, pop, exotic, latin etc..
It also includes Boylesque acts (see my previous post https://vanillarose412.wixsite.com/burlesqueblogcyprus/single-post/2018/03/01/Boylesque)
But what is often misleading when talking about New Burlesque, is believing that any kind of show can be tagged as Burlesque!
This creates confusion in the audience because often there are artists who offer, for example, fire shows or high heels dancing (usually on the music of the movie “Burlesque”) and they call it a Burlesque Show. Please don’t be fooled and don’t let these non-burlesque artists convince you that what you have seen, even if it was a beautiful show performed by talented performers, was a real Burlesque Show.
